The City of Paris is France’s capital and most populous city, as well as the fifth most populous city in the European Union and one of the most densely populated cities in the world. It lies to the north, along the Seine River. The City has an international reputation as a center of culture, particularly in the areas of fashion and cuisine, and it is a national center of economic and political activity. Paris has most recently improved its transportation infrastructure, which has increased citizens’ use of public transportation and bicycles. The City is working to further cut greenhouse gas emissions by 75% by 2050.
