Dar Es Salaam City Council
TanzaniaAbout
Dar es Saalam is Tanzania's economic, transport and administrative center, with roughly 4.4 million inhabitants in the metropolitan region. The densely populated city is home to 10% of the country's total population and continues to grow at a rate of 5.6%. At the moment, many of Dar es Saalam's residents live in informal settlements of about 300 people per hectare, many of which are at risk of flooding. In order to address Dar es Saalam's challenges, the City's 2012 Climate Action Plan was developed to tap into opportunities and bolster Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation with the goal of connecting multiple public and private stakeholders and sectors to key activities including harmonized climate-change and risk management, sustainable land use planning and development, the improvement of life quality and green area from 2014-2020.
