Bonn is located along the Rhine River in the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and home to rouchly 320,000 inhabitants. It is the former capital city of West Germany and remains a rich locus of international politics, institutions, history, culture and nature conservation. 17 UN organizations and over 170 relevant actors in climate adaptation and mitigation, including the ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability World Secretariat, have offices in Bonn. In recent years, the City of Bonn has made its mark as the epicenter for local and global biodiversity initiatives. The City's five primary climate initiatives include "Bonn's path to biodiversity," which aims to increase biodiversity through compensation measures, the promotion of municipal procurement, and the dissemination of consumer information.
