In 2023, ICLEI South America, with vital support from the ICLEI World Secretariat, launched the Gap Fund Set-Up (CRUP) project, financed by the collaboration between the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) through its MDTF fund.
This innovative project aims to empower selected Latin American cities, previous beneficiaries of the Gap Fund, to enhance essential urban infrastructure projects, focusing on Nature-Based Solutions and Linear Parks, preparing them for funding.
Scheduled to last until 2025, the Gap Fund SUP aims to promote knowledge and experience exchange, offering personalized support and interactive technical training to overcome challenges in the elaboration and funding of successful projects. This project stands out for its thematic technical support and for encouraging the sharing of learnings among partner cities in Latin America, including Campinas, Palmas, Rio de Janeiro, Cuenca, and Portoviejo, through workshops and events. Utilizing the Cooperation Cycle methodology, developed by ICLEI, the project aspires to transform knowledge generation into a deeper and sustainable approach for the development of technical capacities and the creation of networks among the participating cities.
Besides the targeted support, the project also seeks to establish Regional Practice Communities (RCoMP) to foster long-lasting collaboration and knowledge sharing on a broader, region-based scale. These communities will serve as regional centers to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences, identify and address common challenges, and strengthen the capacities for sustainable project development and access to financing.
