ICLEI Korea Office received a Presidential Citation at the “29th Environment Day” on Wednesday, 5 June 2024. The Ministry of Environment hosted the ceremony at Yongin Poeun Art Hall.
The Presidential Citation is awarded to exemplary companies, civil society organizations, and individuals who have contributed to environmental preservation. On this occasion, ICLEI Korea was highly praised for creating a favorable environment for local governments through multilevel action by cooperating with the international community and the national government in the environmental sector.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the hard work and dedication of ICLEI Korea Members to implement sustainable policies,” said Yeonhee Park, Executive Director of ICLEI Korea. Ms. Park added, “In the future, the ICLEI Korea Office will continue playing its role faithfully as a link between the global community and the local governments in Korea.”
ICLEI Korea has consolidated the efforts of Korean local governments towards the SDGs by supporting GCoM cities in reporting local climate actions through the ICLEI-CDP Track as the GCoM Korea secretariat. They have also established guidelines for local governments to develop Local Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (LBSAPs), conducted the Green Public Procurement Project, and more.
