What we did
This dialogue convened 12 city pairs from the Cities Forward program in São Paulo, Brazil, creating an opportunity for U.S. and Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) cities to exchange insights and best practices for urban resilience. This event represented a significant step for regional governments, highlighting a collective effort to address urban challenges and establish valuable cross-border connections. Guided by esteemed experts, the Dialogue offered governments access to four panels focused on core themes of urban resilience: reforestation and green corridors, climate-resilient housing, water infrastructure, and technology applications for climate adaptation. The discussions emphasized the vital role of city leaders in tackling pressing issues such as climate change, migration, and natural disasters. The panels highlighted the need for collaboration across sectors, community engagement, and practical strategies to create sustainable, inclusive cities. The event underscored the importance of optimism, ambition, and realistic solutions in enhancing community quality of life. Participants explored the value of nature-based solutions, innovative technologies, and resilient infrastructure to fortify urban environments against climate threats. By exposing governments to insights from experts and fostering shared experiences, the Dialogue equipped cities with actionable strategies that support Cities Forward’s mission: to empower cities across the U.S. and LAC to build a sustainable, resilient future. Through shared expertise and actionable strategies, the Dialogue aimed to strengthen the ability of cities to improve urban life quality and public health while advancing a sustainable, equitable future across the Americas.
