What we are doing
The EU-Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change calls for collaborative action and innovative ways to prepare European communities for the future impacts of climate change. Adaptive capacity differs greatly among different social groups, communities, and individuals, depending on their levels of vulnerability, resilience, and other socio-demographic, economic and contextual factors. For this reason, adaptive practices require a context-bounded, local, and cross-sectoral approach characterized by the empowerment of citizens and stakeholders as key actors of change and transformation. The EU-funded AGORA project aims to enhance collective resilience against climate change by establishing community-based adaptation practices in various social, economic and political contexts. To achieve this, local governments in four pilot regions (Dresden, Malmo, Rome & Zaragoza) are testing innovative approaches for citizen and stakeholder engagement to tailor climate adaptation to the local needs. The project promotes the active collaboration among local governments, citizens, social organizations, and experts to co-design, co-develop and co-implement climate adaptation solutions and build societal resilience.
